Committee authorizes county to proceed with community health assessment survey in May

County public health staff presented a community health assessment draft and the executive committee authorized the department to proceed with distribution and follow-up activities.
A county public health official said state statute requires a community health assessment at least every five years and that the county’s last survey was completed in 2021. The department said it coordinated the draft survey with health systems Aurora and Mercy to reduce duplicate surveying and improve response rates. Staff plans to distribute the survey in May, use a mailed random sample and supplemental focus groups and key-informant interviews.
The department said it will pilot the instrument with a public-health class at UW–Whitewater to test length and clarity and that the epidemiologist is guiding methodology to ensure a statistically valid sample and to reach previously underrepresented community segments. Staff estimated the 2021 survey returned about 1,500 responses and said they expect an improved response rate with the coordinated effort; the exact mailing sample size for 2025 was described as large but “not specified” in the discussion.
A supervisor moved to authorize staff to proceed with the survey subject to final draft adjustments; the motion was seconded (Supervisor Rick Stacy) and carried on a voice vote.
No additional county appropriation was announced at the meeting.
