Councilmember: county approved paramedic licensure for Northview Fire District, enabling local paramedic care

Council Member Severing announced during Jan. 20 council comments that a county commissioner had signed paramedic licensure enabling the Northview Fire District’s paramedics to provide paramedic-level care on scene.
Severing said the district already staffs about four paramedics per day, but under the prior county rule those personnel sometimes could not administer certain advanced life-saving interventions while on scene. ‘‘As of today, we can now act as paramedics,’’ Severing said, and added the change should shorten response time for higher-acuity calls and allow local crews to administer lifesaving measures without waiting for an outside paramedic unit.
Severing credited the fire chief and county officials for work on the approval and said the change will improve service to the community. Council members commended the effort in remarks during the comments section.
