Scott Hess presented North Ogden’s first quarterly economic development report March 25, summarizing active projects and permitting status.
Key updates: Hess said Barker Depot (the 11‑plus acre mixed‑use site around 2600 North and Washington Boulevard) is advancing with site plan approvals for two drive‑through buildings and a health/wellness building; Mountain America Credit Union’s new branch is complete and a new Mountain America use and an America First Credit Union branch are expected to anchor the downtown corner. Hess said Bank of America is under construction at 1700 North and Washington Boulevard and building permits are in place.
Other activity includes Lock It Up storage site improvements and a two‑story climate‑controlled storage building with frontage upgrades and sidewalk installation along 2000 North; several local small businesses and home‑based businesses are active and, Hess said, the city continues to encourage small commercial opportunities where appropriate. Hess also reported on regional economic trends — demand for space and high‑paying engineering jobs near Hill Air Force Base and defense contractors — and suggested that North Ogden’s housing stock and living choices position the city to capture employees who commute to those job centers.
Council feedback: Members commended staff for the report and requested recurring quarterly updates. Hess said staff will continue to provide quarterly reports and to coordinate with developers and regional partners on infrastructure and site readiness.
