The council approved a motion March 25 to appoint two council members to an informal exploratory committee with Pleasant View City to study the feasibility of a joint or shared police services arrangement.
City manager John Call described the proposed group as an exploratory body that would examine pros and cons, financial and operational details, and governance alternatives. He said the proposal would not create a new taxing entity and that budgets would remain overseen by each council; an earlier concept discussed by staff would have a three‑member governing body if an agreement were eventually developed.
Council member Dalpez volunteered to serve on the exploratory group and council member Severy (Severing) had previously expressed interest; the council made a formal motion to appoint Council member Severing (if available) and Council member Dalpez to the committee and the motion passed. Pleasant View was scheduled to take up their membership choices at their next meeting.
Call said the exploratory group could include the two mayors, two council members from each city and a limited number of residents and subject‑matter advisors (for example, a former sheriff or a retired judge) if both cities agree. The committee’s purpose is to develop a recommendation to each council on whether to pursue an interlocal agreement for police services and, if so, what form it would take.
