North Ogden police chief apologizes to council for participating in DUI training

Brian Inan, chief of the North Ogden Police Department, apologized publicly to the City Council on March 25 for participating as a voluntary subject in a department DUI training session commonly called a “wet lab.”
“In that training I made a critical error in judgment by volunteering to be a participant in consuming alcohol that night,” Inan said. “For that, I am very deeply sorry.” He told the council the incident caused procedural missteps during training and “undue negative public scrutiny” for the department and for his family.
Inan said officers and chiefs are held to high standards and that he regretted not providing proper oversight of the training. He said he will use the event’s lessons “as a foundation” to move the department toward “a better, more unified, and professional police department.”
Following the apology, the council excused Chief Inan from the meeting. Council members thanked him for his leadership and accepted the apology.
