Fair board-funded wash-rack rebuild approved for Columbia County fairgrounds

The Columbia County Board of Commissioners on April 2 approved a request from the Columbia County Fair Board to rebuild the hog and sheep wash rack at the county fairgrounds. Mary Anne Guss, the fair board secretary, told commissioners the auction committee will pay for the entire project and that Pacific Stainless has donated materials.
Guss said the existing wash rack can only handle four animals at a time; the redesign will allow washing eight animals simultaneously and will tie into the dry well currently at the site. She asked for board approval because the project is a permanent improvement to county property and therefore requires the board’s sign-off.
County procurement staff said the project had been reviewed and could proceed; the fair board hopes construction will be completed in June before the county fair. Commissioners moved and seconded approval; the motion passed by voice vote.
The board recorded no county-funding obligation for the project in the meeting; procurement and the fair board will coordinate the procurement and construction schedule and report back as needed.
