County staff informed the commission that the Miami County airport will be closed beginning April 14 through the remainder of April for runway maintenance work including removal of existing crack-seal material, grinding of surface paint and striping, crack sealing, application of a seal coat and subsequent runway striping. The north concrete apron at the terminal will receive a two-inch overlay.
Staff said McConnell is the contractor and that a preconstruction meeting already occurred. The contractor indicated an intention to work seven days a week to minimize downtime; with favorable weather, staff said work could be completed by the end of the month. Airport staff said the onsite restaurant is expected to remain open and that small-craft traffic could be accommodated using the turf runway side where operationally feasible.
No closure of airport services beyond surface work was announced, and staff did not present a budget for the project during the report. The announcement was delivered as an informational staff report rather than a board action item.
