The Terrebonne Parish Community Development & Planning Committee voted to amend a proposed ordinance to prohibit vehicles over 15 tons on Woodlawn Ranch Road from Kynes Road eastward to Highway 56.
Councilman Pledger moved to revisit and amend the previously introduced ordinance; the committee ultimately adopted the revised boundary language and approved the amended item by an 8-0 vote.
Why it matters: Councilmembers and residents described cracking drywall and neighborhood impacts from heavy trucks traveling past residential areas; the amended language is intended to preserve access for industrial users west of the bridge while protecting residential segments east of the bridge.
Council members discussed the precise endpoints: members agreed to define the restricted segment as beginning at Kynes Road (east of the new Woodlawn Ranch Road bridge) and ending at Highway 56. Councilman Chris Pulaski noted the first residential street east of the bridge is Kynes Road and recommended that as the start point. The substitute motion read: “East Woodlawn Ranch Road from Kynes Road east to Highway 56.”
The committee chair and several members said the change addressed earlier drafting issues and captured the residential area residents had asked the council to protect. The committee set a public hearing on the proposed ordinance for April 30, 2025.
