McPherson County meeting roundup: hiring, proclamations, road work and records-resolution approved

Hiring: The board approved a personnel change notice to hire Dustin Endorth as a corrections officer effective April 14, 2025. Endorth was introduced at the meeting as a recruit with prior corrections experience and U.S. Army service.
Proclamations: The board approved a proclamation declaring April 13–19, 2025, as National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week in McPherson County. The board also approved a proclamation designating April 2025 as National and Kansas County Government Month.
Records resolution: The board passed Resolution 2025-06 to validate and publish a list of 15 previously adopted county resolutions (special-use resolutions from 2010–2016) for which staff could not locate affidavits of publication. Resolution 2025-06 directs that those prior resolutions be considered published as of their intended original publication date and will be printed in the official county newspaper as required by law.
Road work and intergovernmental agreements: Public Works Director Dave Bonhambliss presented a memorandum of understanding with the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (KDWP) for road repairs through the Maxwell Game Preserve. The county described the project scope as filling washouts, adding gravel, repairing shoulders, adding topsoil and planting grass; the original budget cap discussed was $50,000 with KDWP verbally committed to $25,000. Bonhambliss reported county expenditures of about $46,000 so far and said the work should finish before May 1 to allow asphalt work to follow. The board approved the MOU.
The board also approved a request to mill and overlay 2,500 feet of road inside the City of Inman at the city’s request; the city agreed to reimburse the county for associated costs (estimated $50,000–$60,000) and the county said the extra work will not cost McPherson County beyond staff time.
Fiscal and administrative actions: The board approved checks, claims and payroll and approved abatements presented by staff. Several line items of note in the accounts included jail medical charges and juvenile placement expenses referenced by staff during the meeting packet review.
