Largo Fire Rescue swears in lieutenant, recognizes seven firefighters coming off probation

Largo Fire Rescue used the April 1 City Commission meeting to swear in Lieutenant Billy Stark and mark the completion of probation for seven newly certified firefighters.
The department described the promotional process for a lieutenant: candidates must hold the State of Florida Fire Officer 1 and 2 credentials, have a minimum of five years’ service with Largo Fire Rescue, and meet internal certifications such as engine driver and acting lieutenant. Candidates complete written exams, panel interviews, practical assessments and a final interview with the fire chief and deputy chief; successful candidates are ranked and promoted based on that process.
Lieutenant Billy Stark received ceremonial pinning at the dais; the department also presented yellow helmets to seven probationary firefighters who completed a year of training, written and practical testing and character assessments. Names read at the ceremony included Matthew Ice, Jacob Smith, Colin Armstrong, Levi Albrecht, Colt Tillman, Steven “Scotty” Thompson and Sarah Howard.
Fire staff noted promotions and probation completions were earned after formal evaluation and training and said the new officers and firefighters will soon return to duty.
