School board approves access to $2.7 million facilities reserve to finish projects

The Laconia School Board voted 7-0 to authorize the release of up to $2,700,000 from the district's facilities reserve account to support ongoing construction and completion work, the board chair announced.
Superintendent Champlin told the board the city trustees asked the district to reaffirm last year's vote under the current board so the trustees can schedule a public hearing (the trustees' next meeting was identified as April 28 in committee notes) and then release the funds to the construction team. Champlin said the requested figure reflects available funds while noting a remaining balance would stay in the account.
Board materials show the facilities reserve account contains $2,769,000; Champlin said $69,000 of that would remain in the account if the board approved access to $2.7 million. The facilities update in packet materials also lists $183,000 in unused allowances and contingency within the locker-room project budget that could reduce net expenditures.
The board's vote authorizes access to the facilities reserve on a 'not to exceed' basis and passed unanimously. Board members did not propose amendments to the dollar amount during the discussion. Trustees will conduct a public hearing before any funds are distributed, as described by Champlin.
The vote clears a near-term funding hurdle for district facility projects, including high-school work and locker-room finishes noted in facilities reports; the district said it hopes not to use the full authorized amount.
