The Muskegon County Community Development and Strategic Planning Committee on Feb. 13 approved issuing a request for proposals to produce a master plan for the North Lake portion of Dune Harbor Park, a 377-acre parcel in Muskegon County.
“This is simply a motion to request approval to create an RFP for master planning for the North Lake portion of Dune Harbor Park, Muskegon County…we're looking at the potential for a campground or campgrounds, possibly an RV campground and then an area for other types of camping, trails, Lake Michigan access, probably some type of restroom facility or small office facility,” Community Development Director Bob Lukens said when presenting the item.
Commissioners discussed likely respondents, with one noting architectural and landscape design firms and engineering firms as likely candidates. Lukens said some funding exists in the Dune Harbor Park Fund at the Community Foundation and that the RFP step will advance the conceptual master plan previously presented by the county.
The motion was moved by Commissioner Paige and supported by Commissioner McWhiggin; the committee approved the RFP release.
Staff said the RFP will include public input sessions to solicit community preferences for siting and amenities and that future board approvals will be required before committing construction funding.
