Muskegon County’s Board of Commissioners voted April 16 to accept a 2021 Ford cutaway van donated from the Wyoming Post Police Department and to authorize the sale of a 1999 Chevrolet C33500 box truck through Emergency Service LLC.
The action, listed on the agenda as CPS 25/01-01, was moved by Chair Nash and supported by Baxter Cook and carried on a voice vote with no opposition. The motion covered accepting the van “free of charge” together with vehicle equipment and granting permission to sell the box truck through the county’s contract vehicle maintenance provider.
The item prompted brief questions from commissioners about why the county would accept a donated van while selling an older box truck. Commissioners were told the two vehicles are different assets and that departments often trade or transfer vehicles internally. No one provided additional details about the intended use of the van, estimated sale price for the box truck, or the prospective buyer.
County staff did not provide a dollar figure for the anticipated proceeds from the sale. The motion as written used the phrase “permission is being requested,” which a commissioner noted was not standard motion language; commissioners agreed the existing wording was adequate to proceed.
The board did not take further public comment on the item. No timeline for disposing of the box truck or for placing the donated van into service was specified during the meeting.
