Muskegon County commissioners on Jan. 21 approved a series of citizen appointments and reappointments to advisory committees, including the Accommodation Tax Advisory Committee, Airport Development Committee, Community Corrections Advisory Board and several health, planning and veterans advisory groups.
The appointments fill vacancies and extend terms on boards that advise county departments on industry, public health, planning and services for veterans and seniors. The board confirmed both reappointments and new members; most terms listed in the meeting run to Dec. 31, 2026 or Dec. 31, 2027 depending on the committee.
The list of confirmed appointments included Perth Coleman (amusement attractions), Debbie Hilbert (hotels and motels) and Patricia Schroeder (food and beverage) to the Accommodation Tax Advisory Committee, with terms to Dec. 31, 2027. Rachel Poirnate was appointed to the Airport Development Committee to replace a prior member, term to Dec. 31, 2026. Community Corrections Advisory Board appointments included Becky Holford and Joel Engel (terms to Dec. 31, 2027). Reappointments and new appointments were also approved for the MSU Extension Council, the Public Health Advisory Committee, the Remediation Peer Review Group, the Solid Waste Planning Committee, the Veterans Advisory Committee, White Lake/White River Zoning Board and other advisory bodies. Jessica Cook was appointed to the Muskegon Trade Zone to replace Commissioner Hayscamp on that body.
Most confirmations were approved by voice vote after the chair called for assent. Where terms were announced during the meeting they were recorded as running to Dec. 31, 2026 or Dec. 31, 2027; any term not specified in discussion was recorded by staff as "not specified" in the meeting packet. The board did not take roll-call tallies for those voice votes during the appointment motions as read into the record.
The confirmations complete the county's roster of citizen advisers for several program areas and allow the affected committees to resume full membership for advisory work through the stated term dates.
