Canton High DECA students present programs, qualify for International Career Development Conference

Students and advisors from Canton High School’s DECA chapter gave the school committee an overview of the chapter’s growth, fundraising and competitive success and described plans to attend the upcoming DECA International Career Development Conference (ICDC) in Orlando.
Club president Pranavadanki (senior) and members described DECA as an international student organization that prepares high school and collegiate members for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and related fields through role plays and written project events. Presenters said Canton DECA was founded four years ago with five members and has grown to more than 50 members; five students qualified for the international conference this year (three had qualified last year).
The presentation outlined fundraising activities — an online school-store initiative and business partnerships with local businesses and the Canton Association of Business and Industry — and cited donations from local donors. Students described the ICDC experience as a combination of competitive events, networking and professional-development opportunities; advisers said that the district teacher sponsor purchased three-day park passes for students’ time off-competition.
Committee members congratulated the students and asked about membership and how students join; presenters said membership is open, recruits at the fall club fair and involves regular meetings and participation in district-level competitions as qualifiers for state and international events.
Committee members highlighted the program’s value for applied business skills and workforce-ready competencies and pledged support for continued club growth.
