Canton School Committee elects chair, vice chair and clerk; approves subcommittee roster

At its April 10 reorganization meeting the Canton School Committee elected Miss McCourt chair, Sonia Grogg vice chair and Miranda clerk, and approved a slate of subcommittee assignments by unanimous roll call votes.
The Canton School Committee voted unanimously Thursday to reorganize its leadership and approve subcommittee assignments for the coming year.
In the first formal action of the meeting, School Committee member Sonia Grogg nominated Miss McCourt for chair; the nomination was seconded and approved by roll call. The committee then nominated Sonia Grogg for vice chair and approved that nomination by roll call. The committee also nominated Miranda for clerk and approved that nomination by roll call.
Committee members then reviewed and approved a set of subcommittee assignments required by the town’s budget calendar, including the policy subcommittee, budget and finance, AFSCME unit contracts and others. Committee members said they had discussed assignments with the newest member, Amanda Ryder, and that some matches were made to accommodate members’ experience and availability.
Members praised outgoing interim leadership and welcomed the new appointees. Superintendent Derek Follin presided at the start of the meeting and turned control of the session to the newly elected chair after the vote.

The committee did not change the town’s staffing or budget authority in these approvals; members said the assignments were intended to ensure coverage for required deadlines and committee continuity. The committee closed the reorganization items and proceeded to the published agenda.
