The Board of Island County Commissioners on March 18, 2025 approved its agenda as amended and its consent agenda and added an 11 a.m. executive session to discuss the performance of a public employee under RCW 42.30.110(1)(g).
The executive session was added as part of an agenda amendment; the board recorded no public comments either in the meeting room or online before closing the public-comment period. The board reconvened from executive session and adjourned at 12:25 p.m. to meet at 1 p.m. for the Board of Health.
The meeting began with a call to order and the Pledge of Allegiance. After confirming there were no public commenters present in person or online, a motion to approve the agenda as amended was made and seconded; the motion passed. A separate motion to approve the consent agenda was made, seconded and approved.
When the agenda was amended the board specified that the executive session would be held at 11 a.m. and cited the authority for a closed-session discussion of a public employee's performance under the Revised Code of Washington, RCW 42.30.110(1)(g). At the start of the meeting staff noted the executive session was expected to last until 11:30 a.m. with no announcement anticipated. During the meeting the chair requested multiple brief extensions of the executive session; the board reconvened at 12:25 p.m.
Commissioners also used the meeting for brief announcements about upcoming events and travel plans, including a library opening in Langley and a later Board of Health meeting scheduled for 1 p.m. The agenda contained no regular items or public hearings.
The board adjourned the regular session at 12:25 p.m. and convened the Board of Health at 1 p.m.
