Several residents of the Whispering Firs plat in Freeland told the Board of Island County Commissioners on April 1 that they are concerned about a proposed expansion of housing on a 1960s plat that has a single road in and out and mapped wetlands.
The residents said they had spoken with a representative of Eagle Builders who, they reported, told them the company would proceed under the existing plat and did not consider community input a deciding factor. "Community impact or community input is irrelevant. This is legal. This is a done deal," said "Miss Gabellein," a Freeland resident who identified herself during the public-comment period.
