Forks emergency-preparedness classes set for May; county resource fairs planned across Clallam County

A multi-session emergency-preparedness class for residents will be held in Forks in May, the committee was told, and DDAC members highlighted a slate of upcoming resource fairs across Clallam County.
A presenter announced a three-class emergency-preparedness series at Peninsula College’s Forks campus on Monday, May 12; Wednesday, May 14; and Monday, May 19, with a makeup day on Wednesday, May 21. Classes are scheduled between 10 a.m. and noon, with organizers noting sessions often run longer and that the course includes hands-on practice with supplies.
“We actually take everything out and we practice using it,” the presenter said, describing in-class exercises that let participants handle radios, flashlights and other emergency items so they know how to use them in a real emergency.
Organizers said the Forks classes were almost full and that additional sessions will be offered in Port Angeles and Sequim later in the year. The presenter said she had already sent notices to county offices and local nonprofits and would post updated registration details on her organization’s site.
On community outreach, DDAC member Shelby Bell described resource fairs planned this spring: a Sequim High School library event with doors opening about 5:30 p.m., a Clallam Bay event May 8 with invitations extended to Neah Bay, and planned outreach to Port Angeles High School to expand district participation. Bell said the fairs aim to connect families with services, including early intervention, DDA information and other supports.
No formal votes or funding decisions were made; members encouraged partner organizations to sign up as community partners for the county fair and for the resource fairs.
