City planning staff described a rezoning request for 5641 Flanders Avenue (Charleston County TMS 473115 Parcel 129) and recommended approval of a change from R-1 single-family residential to O.N. Neighborhood Office zoning.
During the presentation staff placed the parcel within the comprehensive plans traditional neighborhood future land-use designation and within the Remount Road mixed-use corridor. The parcel is currently a single-family home adjacent to general business zoning along Remount Road and R-2 multi-family zoning nearby; staff said O.N. neighborhood office zoning "would be consistent with this designation" and noted the Planning Commission recommended approval following a public hearing.
Following the presentation the mayor announced, "Without objection, this item is referred to the Public Safety Committee for further review and consideration." No committee discussion or vote was recorded during the council meeting segment; referral means the request will undergo committee review before returning to the full council for any action.
The transcript did not record additional conditions, proffers or a final council vote on the rezoning; staff and the Planning Commission recommended approval, but the formal decision was deferred to committee.
