Bedford High School community senator reports on student board seat and bell‑schedule review

Brody Wong, a student member of the Bedford High School Community Senate, briefed the School Board on April 14 about two items: the student school‑board member selection process and a district conversation about changing the high school bell schedule.

Wong said the Community Senate reviewed the timeline for selecting a new student school‑board member (the outgoing member plans to leave for college). The Senate reported that the application notice had been sent and the application deadline was May 6; the group was still collecting applicants at the time of the briefing.

The senate also reviewed possible revisions to the high school daily schedule, including consolidating Advisory blocks into a single WIN (“What I Need”) block used for academic help, retakes and teacher meetings. Students who attended the Community Senate meeting and the group’s notes identified pros (more focused time for academic needs) and cons (fewer breaks between classes, potential conflicts with clubs, and reduced advisory time for small‑group relationship building).

The Senate’s conclusion was procedural: the high‑school principal will consult staff and collect student feedback through advisories before forwarding recommendations. Wong told the board the senate had added detailed pros/cons and planned to gather more input before any board action.

Board members thanked the senate for the report and noted the complexity of schedule changes; no formal board action was taken at the meeting.
