Lucas County expands notification partnerships and accepts Davis-Besse emergency planning funds

The Lucas County Board of Commissioners authorized memoranda of agreement allowing partner organizations to use the county's Everbridge notification system for both internal and external alerts, and approved acceptance of VISTA funding to support emergency planning and preparedness related to the Davis-Besse nuclear power station.
Abby Buckup of Lucas County Emergency Services presented the items. Buckup said LucasCountyAlerts enrollment has increased since the county migrated to Everbridge, reporting roughly 68,000 public subscribers and just under 2,000 internal notification partners that include the sheriff's office and other public-safety agencies. The agreements permit partner entities to use the county portal for community opt-in notifications and internal operational alerts.
The board also approved acceptance of VISTA funding for planning, training and exercises tied to radiological response responsibilities for Davis-Besse. Presenters noted the biannual drills required by state and federal guidance and emphasized coordination with neighboring Ottawa County where the plant is located. Commissioners praised the preparedness work and approved both items by roll-call vote.
Staff urged continued public outreach to increase opt-ins to the alert system (signup available at lucascountyalerts.com) and noted that broader partner adoption improves the timeliness and reach of urgent notifications.
