Normandy Schools Collaborative board holds work session to train on Diligent software; agenda approved

The Normandy Schools Collaborative Board of Education met in a work session beginning at 6:01 p.m. to run a hands-on training of the Diligent meeting-management platform and to approve the night’s agenda.
The session, led operationally by Secretary Cecilia Rigsby, aimed to move the district from its existing BoardDocs system to Diligent. "I'm your secretary, Cecilia Rigsby. So at this time, we're gonna be just kinda diving into Diligent and, playing around, logging in," Rigsby said as members attempted to sign in and familiarize themselves with the new interface.
The training mattered because board members will use the platform to access meeting packets and documents. Director Theresa Pearson read the board norms before the training, saying the board uses "facts and data to inform our decisions in accordance with the interests of the overall district as a whole and not any particular segment thereof." The session included a live demonstration by Rigsby and technical assistance from district staff and a Diligent representative, Yvette Clemons.
Board members who joined the session practiced logging in, locating the agenda and saving Diligent to their browsers. Several members encountered password or login problems; Rigsby and staff helped troubleshoot on the spot. Rigsby noted that some board members had already accessed the system: "I was so happy a few of our board members have already taken the opportunity to jump in and look around. All of us have our usernames. All of us have our passwords."
Participants contrasted the new platform with the district’s prior system. One member described BoardDocs as serviceable but due for replacement; participants said Diligent should allow easier document organization and better tracking of member access. Staff warned that the district’s Diligent landing page may still be updated to reflect district branding.
The board established a quorum and approved the evening agenda by voice vote during the session. The audio record shows members answering "Aye" when asked to approve the agenda; no roll-call breakdown by name was recorded in the transcript. The board then moved into hands-on steps for signing in, bookmarking the site and navigating meeting materials.
The work session was structured as training rather than a policy meeting; Rigsby reminded viewers that the session was for internal familiarization: "This is a work session. This is not one of our regular board meetings. So during this time, our board dive into work. They talk about topics, trainings, and use this time to, familiarize ourselves with whatever it is that the board is needing to know. So this work session is gonna look different than, a regular session." The board did not take formal policy votes or adopt new policies during the training portion recorded in the transcript.
The district plans to continue supporting members as they complete Diligent onboarding. Staff and the vendor representative remained available to assist members who could not immediately access their accounts or who needed help saving the site to their favorites.
