Commissioners discussed county trash and dumpster contracts and asked staff to compile a list of locations, contract expirations and vendors so the county can consider consolidation or master agreements to reduce costs.
One commissioner said the county appears to pay multiple vendors for service at different locations and cited an example in which a residential bill rose sharply; commissioners said they want to ensure the county is not overpaying and that contracts are managed so expirations align for possible consolidation. Staff said many contracts expire at different times and that the county can only act when a particular contract is up for renewal. A commissioner suggested offering both local vendors a chance to consolidate services; another recommended producing a vendor-specific pull and working with the county finance director on next steps.
The board directed staff to gather vendor and contract data and to share it with the county finance director and other staff to prepare options for consolidation when contracts come up for renewal.
