At the meeting the board identified Wayne Peck as executor of Ann Calvin’s estate and said the gift was made at the decedent’s request to buy equipment for EMS. County staff and EMS members explained the stair chair is used to move patients who are located in homes with stairs; the device has tracked treads that allow crews to lower patients safely without manually carrying full body weight down steps.
Presenters said the chair reduces physical strain on EMS crews and improves patient safety during stair transport. Officials indicated the county aims to have at least one stair chair available on each EMS response unit going forward; however staff said not every unit currently carries one and crews recently borrowed a chair on a run when one was not available.
Commissioners thanked the donor family and noted the gift demonstrates how estate donations can support county services. No formal board action or expenditure authorization was required beyond acknowledging receipt and use of the donated funds.
