Saratoga County staff reported on March 5 that the county nnual planning and zoning conference drew strong local participation, with 461 registrants from Saratoga County and a total local attendance of 343 people from 19 towns, two cities and seven villages.
Presenting the numbers, Jason Kemp, a county staff member, provided a breakdown: "Saratoga County registrants, we had 461," he said. Kemp told the committee that overall attendance included 358 planning and zoning board members, of whom 227 were from Saratoga County, and that 47 attorneys signed up and received continuing legal education credits.
Committee members discussed the conference's pricing and revenue model. Staff said the event is priced below comparable conferences and generates a small amount of revenue, but that the net figure does not account for staff time. Kemp and others noted heavy staff effort to organize the full-day program and many sponsorships that helped keep costs down. Committee members said they want to keep registration affordable for small towns with limited budgets while exploring modest opportunities for additional revenue if desired.
The committee did not take formal action on conference policy during the meeting; members asked staff to prepare final billing and revenue figures for later review so the committee could assess options after the current year's receipts and sponsor payments are completed.
