Council actions: step increase for officer, code-enforcement contract renewal, snow-truck purchase; executive session scheduled

FLANDREAU — The Flandreau City Council formalized several personnel and procurement actions and then moved into executive session for personnel matters.

The council approved a step increase for Police Officer Tyler Waller. Cole told the council Tyler had met requirements for the certified police officer wage scale and, if approved, would move from step 2 to step 3 at $26.25 hourly. A motion to approve the step increase was made by Alderman Parch and seconded by Alderman Allers; the motion passed by voice vote.

The council renewed its annual contract with Code Enforcement Specialists (contractor Tim Austin). Cole recommended renewing the $1,500 retainer contract with mileage billed at the prevailing rate; council members noted the contractor carries liability coverage that protects the city. Alderman Farjane moved to renew and authorize signature; Alderman Allers seconded and the motion carried.

The council authorized purchase of a Freightliner snow truck under a Sourcewell cooperative purchasing contract. Cole said the truck, with a custom dump box sized for snow hauling, had a total purchase price of $149,179 and that the city would fund it from vehicle-replacement funds (including $40,000 moved from prior budgets and $150,000 in the 2025 budget). Alderman Berkey moved to purchase the truck; Alderman Gayton seconded. The motion carried.

Procedural items approved earlier in the meeting included adoption of the agenda, approval of minutes and bills, and approval of administrative reports (all by voice vote as recorded in the minutes). After the above votes, the council moved into an executive session to discuss personnel at 7:26 p.m.; that motion carried.
