Council approves resolution to support bridge dedication in memory of Capt. Berlin G. Meyer

The Lennox City Council voted to approve Resolution 2025021001 supporting an application to dedicate the Highway 44 bridge over Long Creek in memory of Captain Berlin Glenn Meyer, a Lennox native who was killed in action in Vietnam in 1968.
The request was presented by family members Paul McVay and Clyde McVay; Corey McVay, a junior at the high school, distributed the application packet and spoke about Captain Meyer’s service. The packet states Meyer served two tours in Vietnam, died Aug. 22, 1968, and received decorations including the Distinguished Flying Cross, Silver Star, Air Medal and Purple Heart. Family members noted Meyer is buried in the Lennox Cemetery and his name appears on the Vietnam Wall in Washington, D.C.
Council members thanked the family for the research and expressed support. The resolution will accompany the packet submitted to the South Dakota Department of Veterans Affairs; the family said the application deadline is at the end of the month and, if approved, they would plan a community dedication the following summer on a date such as Memorial Day or Veterans Day.
The motion to approve the resolution passed by voice vote.
