Scurry County Commissioners Court voted to solicit bids to lease a concrete pad at Tollpark Park to accommodate a delivery staging site requested by Amazon representatives.
County staff described the company’s request as a need for an approximately 60-by-53-foot pad to hold an 8-by-40 container with electrical access and use of nearby restrooms. Officials said the proposed location is the concrete pad near the southeast corner of the barn/pavilion area; staff noted the parking surface adjacent to the pad shows wear and that access routes would be part of the bid evaluation.
Commissioners discussed prior short-term agreements with UPS, which used containers during peak seasons, and emphasized that this request would be ongoing rather than seasonal. A motion to go out for bids for leasing the concrete pad was made and seconded; the court voted in favor.
Speakers noted possibilities the site could be a first step toward greater local delivery capacity and said details — lease price, site preparation, electrical access and any limits on staffing or on‑site operations — will be addressed through the formal bid and negotiation process. Some commissioners suggested negotiating power-service terms as part of lease negotiations.
The court set the solicitation to be released and directed staff to return with received bids for the court’s review; commissioners noted a target of the court’s first May meeting to evaluate proposals.
