Committee seeks Soldier On and similar providers for Mattaqueese site planning; transportation and services discussed

Committee members on Feb. 10 recommended that the town invite Soldier On and, separately, Towers to Tunnels to brief the committee and the public on the services they provide and the physical attributes they would need if located at the Mattaqueese site.
Drew (committee member) said he would like Soldier On to “come to Yarmouth” for a presentation so the town could determine whether Soldier On’s model would be appropriate for the site and what unit counts or design features would be needed. Mary (staff member) suggested the organization could present in person or via PowerPoint, and noted that it may be easier for Soldier On to come to Yarmouth than for the committee to arrange a site visit.
The committee also discussed transportation needs for residents who may not have cars. Mary and others noted that some providers buy vans for resident transportation and that regional services such as Dial-a-Ride or the regional transit authority could be options, possibly requiring a covered bus pick-up area on the property. The committee emphasized that transportation planning should be considered early for senior or service-enriched housing phases.
Committee members agreed that an outreach step—contacting Soldier On and Towers to Tunnels to request a local presentation—would be useful prior to or in parallel with site planning work. No formal invitation or contract action was taken at the Feb. 10 meeting.
