The Yarmouth Select Board voted unanimously Tuesday to support a request from the finance director to close out a competitive Green Communities grant that included a $160,000 line item for an anaerobic digester the town no longer expects to use in the grant’s timeframe.
Finance Director Jennifer Mullen (Finance Director) — who was absent due to illness — prepared a memo explaining that because the grant was awarded competitively for the digester project, the state will not allow the town to reallocate the remaining funds to other projects within that grant award. The board’s action authorizes closure of the grant and allows the town to apply in a future competitive round for other energy-efficiency projects.
Town Administrator Bob said the town is eligible to be reimbursed for completed work and that closing the grant would not forfeit funds already spent and reported; the remaining contested item is the $160,000 anaerobic digester. Select Board member Mark moved to support the finance director’s request to close out the July 25, 2022 Green Communities grant and to support reapplying in a future round; the motion was seconded and passed unanimously.
Board members asked staff to confirm the status of reimbursements for work already completed and to clarify the final accounting as part of the closeout process. The Select Board’s vote will allow staff to pursue new competitive Green Communities grant rounds in subsequent years.
