The Old Kings Highway Committee of the Town of Yarmouth approved an application to install solar panels at 30 Dutchland Drive at its March 10, 2025, hearing.
The committee heard the application from Steve Kelly of Sunrun Installation Services, the agent for owner Nicholas Lawrence. Kelly said the submitted plans show 19 panels, including an array of 12 panels on the front roof, and that the work will be mounted on a new onyx-black roof. "We are proposing 19 panels; the submitted plans do have the 19 panels on there. We have an array of 12 panels on the front of the house ... typical black on black with the black skirt," Kelly said.
The application as listed on the committee agenda described the proposal as 10 panels. The difference between the agenda description and Kelly—s presentation was noted on the record.
Committee members asked a few questions about the roof and neighborhood context. One committee member noted a nearby house, 12 Dutchland Drive, already has front-facing solar, and another said the house—s roof appeared to be in poor condition until the applicant showed new shingles in the driveway. "I was a little worried about it because it was really rough looking, but then I saw a pile of shingles right there in the driveway," a committee member said.
Hearing no questions from abutters or other members of the public, a motion to approve the application was made and seconded. The committee voted in favor of approving the application.
The committee chair reminded applicants that committee decisions may be appealed: a 10-calendar-day appeal period begins once a decision is filed with the Town Clerk, and any person aggrieved by the decision may appeal to the Regional Commission of the Old Kings Highway Historic District.
The committee recorded no other conditions on the approval during the hearing.
