Court approves courthouse-lawn use for community Easter egg hunt; Beauty association announces Sept. 5 symposium

Wilson County Commissioners Court on April 14 granted use of the courthouse lawn for a community Easter egg event hosted by Forest Grove First Baptist Church on April 19, 2025, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. The organizers said volunteers (about 20–30 teenagers and 20–30 adults) would help set up and clean up, and no structures would be installed — only plastic eggs.
The court also heard a discussion-only presentation from Elaine Lazarek Stevens, director of the Wilson County Beautification Association, announcing the South Texas Environmental and Conservation Symposium scheduled for Friday, Sept. 5, 2025, at the Wilson County Expo Showbarn. Stevens said the nonprofit — an affiliate of Keep Texas Beautiful — plans a full-day program (8 a.m.–5 p.m.) with speakers from the Texas Water Resources Institute, Texas A&M University–Corpus Christi, Dark Sky Texas, Evergreen Underground Water District and GVEC. The symposium will include vendor information tables (no craft tables), a student rate and outreach to local school districts.
During the Easter-event discussion, court members confirmed no conflicting courthouse reservations were known and voted to approve the lawn use request. The Beautification Association distributed a flyer with admission, vendor and sponsor information and invited county leaders to attend and promote regional participation.
The Beautification Association described the symposium as an opportunity to raise awareness about litter abatement, water conservation and related environmental topics across South Texas. The association said its publication, the South Texas Beautification and Environmental Directory, and its speaker forum would support the event’s outreach.
No fees, bonds or insurance conditions were recorded in the discussion; organizers confirmed they would not place permanent structures on the lawn and would coordinate cleanup.
