A representative identified as Ziegler, speaking for South Lyon Area Youth Assistance, addressed the City Council during public comment on April 14 to thank the city for financial support and to request volunteers and donations.
Ziegler said the organization runs programs to build self-confidence among young people. "We have a case worker full time and that's paid for Oakland by Oakland County," Ziegler told the council. She described summer enrichment that culminates in a play, a youth recognition program in May that includes a breakfast and awards for volunteers, and a toiletry closet and scholarships run by the organization.
Ziegler said she would leave brochures and asked residents to consider volunteering or donating; councilmembers acknowledged the group's work and thanked the speaker.
