South Lyon DDA: six EV chargers installed, Lafayette Park bid closes May 2

Nate Max, director of the Downtown Development Authority, told the South Lyon City Council on April 14 that six electric vehicle charging stations have been installed in downtown South Lyon but are not yet operational while the utility hookup is pending.
Max said two chargers are in the Well Street parking lot and four are in the Whipple Street lot. "They're not operational yet, however. We're waiting on DTE to get the power hookup," he said. Max added the DDA has contacted the installer and DTE and expects the stations to be activated once the utility completes work.
The DDA director also summarized upcoming downtown programming. He said Ladies Night is scheduled for Friday, May 9, from 5 to 9 p.m., and the outdoor farmers market opens Saturday, May 3, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The market sold out for opening day, and organizers plan a food-truck rally every second Saturday through October.
Max reported that the Lafayette Park project has gone out for bid; the bid closes May 2. He said the city has nearly $500,000 in grants earmarked for the park and expects construction to be completed by approximately May 2026.
Councilmember Alex Hansen praised the placement of the chargers near the fire station and noted the convenience for events and the community.
The DDA's update included no formal action tonight; council members asked follow-up questions about timing and placement and confirmed they would be notified when the chargers are turned on.
