Board approves $415,030 carpet replacement at high school

The El Dorado School Board approved a $415,030 proposal to replace carpet across the high school at its meeting. The project covers nearly 58,000 square feet (described in materials as nearly 60,000) and is scheduled to be complete by July 18 under a Greenbush cooperative purchasing agreement.

Board members and staff said the work would replace carpet in classrooms, hallways, the main office, the media center, music and drama rooms, and associated support spaces. Carter, a staff member presenting the project, told the board the scope had been broken into four bid areas because the district "didn't know how much it was gonna cost" and that two contractors returned competitive bids within about $10,000 of each other. "We would just propose that we complete all 4 of those areas for a total cost of $415,030," Carter said.

The district presented renderings and explained the new floor will use carpet squares to simplify future spot replacement. Staff said any leftover carpet from the contract will remain property of the district and that the district may purchase additional matching tile if needed. The board discussed vendor history; Carter said Curtis with DCS previously assisted on earlier high school projects.

The board moved and seconded the item and voted to approve the EHS carpet program in the amount of $415,030. The motion carried; the transcript does not record a roll-call tally.

The district said the contractor proposal was divided into four areas to match budget planning, that DCS would act as project manager under the cooperative agreement if the board approved the work, and that the project schedule was set to avoid extended interruption to summer programs.

Action on the carpet project concludes the item; the board moved on to other agenda items.
