Grants Pass board approves cooperative boys volleyball team with Hidden Valley

The Grants Pass School District policy committee voted to approve a cooperative agreement allowing Grants Pass high school boys to participate on a Hidden Valley High School boys volleyball team for the current spring season. Member Smith moved to approve the cooperation; the motion passed by unanimous vote.

The district presenter described the status: Grants Pass had a strong sign-up with roughly 30 students expressing interest across the program but did not meet roster thresholds to field a team alone this year. Hidden Valley likewise had only two or three boys available and asked to combine rosters so students from both schools could form one program.

District staff explained the cooperative structure: students from Grants Pass would travel to play with Hidden Valley for the season while the district handles required approvals and a modest stipend for the position in the short term. Uniform shortfalls were addressed through borrowing arrangements for a jamboree the next day; staff said they were working to secure home/away jerseys and had received a quote around $995 for set of uniforms. Officials also noted costs for match officials and other operating expenses.

Board members asked practical questions about uniforms, practice times and possible impacts on other spring sports; staff said practices were scheduled to avoid conflicts (early morning sessions) and predicted minimal disruption to other teams. The presenter said the plan was to try the coop this spring and pursue independent team status next year if participation supports it.

The board recorded the formal action and directed staff to complete any remaining administrative steps to implement the coop.
