Board approves consent items and adopts revised attendance, transfer and tuition policies

The Bullitt County Board of Education approved routine consent items and adopted a set of revised policies and administrative procedures related to student attendance, transfers and tuition.

The board approved the consent agenda on a motion by Mr. Archfield with a second from Miss Neil; the clerk recorded the vote as 5–0 in favor. The consent package covered routine business items listed on the meeting agenda.

On the second reading, the board approved revised policies governing school attendance and student transfer procedures. Key changes outlined by staff include: free tuition for children of active‑duty military, National Guard members and first responders serving Bullitt County communities; a prorated tuition structure for nonresident students who transfer into the district mid‑year; in‑district transfers locked for a full year; a priority transfer window for Bullitt County residents from Dec. 1 to Jan. 15; and a transfer application period open through July 31 for Bullitt County residents. Staff emphasized that principal discretion remains part of the transfer review process and that criteria such as grades, attendance and behavior would continue to be considered.

The motion to approve the second reading was made by Miss Belcher and seconded by Miss Neil; the meeting transcript records the vote as 5–0 and staff said the policies will become active upon approval.

The changes were presented as updates to ensure the district policies are responsive to students and families and to address equity for military families and mid‑year transfers.
