Bullitt County schools report weather delays, change orders and summer bid schedule for construction projects

The Bullitt County Board of Education heard a detailed construction update at its March meeting, where district staff said rain and wet conditions have delayed some finishing work at recently completed athletic facilities and that several construction change orders and a septic purchase order were included on the consent agenda approved by the board.
District staff member Kate Noble presented photos and a status report on Bullitt Central, Bullitt East and North Bullitt projects, saying paint work is behind schedule because block must dry before painting and final inspections remain with contractors. Noble said the district has received certificates of occupancy from the cities and the state and is starting close-out on portions of the projects.
Noble identified specific work included among change orders on the agenda: at Bullitt East, adding a bleacher pad to allow relocation of salvaged bleachers and concrete work under softball bleachers; at North Bullitt, adding straw blankets on steep slopes to protect seed and adding two water fountains in the home dugout that were on architectural but omitted from plumbing bids; and a purchase order to start septic installation for the baseball/softball restrooms so temporary restrooms can be removed. Noble also described a trench drain and reoriented slab required by the final design from Toadvine and added PTAC cooling units to a softball press box.
On larger upcoming work, Noble said coordination is ongoing for the two planned physical science centers. The district is revising site design for Bullitt Central with a new civil engineer, adding a generator for the main high school and incorporating audio enhancement, life-safety intercom and fire-alarm upgrades into the work. She told the board that construction bids for those packages will be opened at a June 13 bid opening, she plans to update the board at its June 16 regular meeting, and the district is considering a special meeting the following week if needed; construction could start July 1 if bids and approvals permit.
Superintendent remarks reiterated thanks to the construction teams and contractors for getting fields playable for spring sports despite tight timelines, and noted that furniture deliveries and remaining punch-list work are scheduled over the summer.
The board approved the consent agenda earlier in the meeting, which the superintendent said includes the contract and change-orders referenced during the presentation.
Looking ahead, Noble said a final SDD package for the science centers will be presented next month and that drainage, site design and a narrow schedule shift have pushed approvals later but should still allow significant summer construction.
