District says MTSS staff are not being eliminated; roles moving to Academic Services

Norma Justice, Equity Council member, said: "For those who don't know, MTSS is multi tier support, services. So they help identify students who are on the, maybe they've scored low on their map testing, or they're falling behind in class." Justice said community members had contacted her after hearing positions were being eliminated.
Superintendent Dr. Liggins responded: "Well, currently, there are 2 district MTSS people, and the only change happening with them is that they're moving from the assessment office to the academic services office. None are going away." The superintendent told the council the positions were being reassigned between offices, not eliminated.
Council members recorded the clarification and had the department change—moving the district MTSS staff from Assessment to Academic Services—reflected in the meeting discussion. No formal board action on MTSS staffing occurred at the Equity Council meeting; the item was a clarification requested by community members.
