Dodge City board approves multiple facility projects, signs and policy updates totaling millions

High school expansion: The board ratified an additional architect fee of $18,500 to redraw plans after removing a proposed mezzanine and approved a gross maximum price (GMP) contract with Building Solutions for $4,561,753.88. The district reported the combined project cost with architect fees is $4,978,753.88, under the $5,000,000 target the board had set. Both motions passed 6–0.
Chiller and boilers: The board approved replacement of the high‑school chiller at a cost of $584,499 (estimated 33‑week lead time) and design fees for boiler replacements at Comanche and Ross for $29,000 to prepare bid specifications. Both motions passed 6–0.
Gym sound/projector and library inventory: The board approved a projector and sound system for Ross Elementary’s gym (paid from Capital Outlay) and approved replenishing library collections across schools using At‑Risk funds (budgets previously discussed by schools). Both motions passed 6–0.
Red Field redesign and other repairs: The board authorized a $61,625 contract with Schwab Eton to design a comprehensive redesign of Red Field, including ADA and parking improvements, and approved kitchen hood repairs across several schools for $25,490 to correct items cited in a fire inspection. Both motions passed 6–0.
Elevator modernization and policies: The board approved remodernization of the oldest elevator at Comanche for $98,968.92 (district said replacement would cost ~ $300,000 and the work has a multi‑month lead time) and approved KASB‑recommended updates to board policies after legal review. Both motions passed 6–0.
Funding and next steps: District staff said projects will be paid from identified sources including capital outlay, contingency and at‑risk funds as appropriate.
