The Jamestown school board approved two change orders for the JVCTC expansion project at its March 17 meeting: Change Order No. 6 (lighting/switches; approximately $582) and Change Order No. 7 (replacement of a condensing unit). The motion (moved by Aaron; seconded by Steve) carried on voice vote.
Superintendent Dr. Loeck described the background for Change Order No. 7: the original equipment list labeled a condensing unit incorrectly and a larger, correct unit is required to meet operational needs. The superintendent said the proper unit was more expensive and that the replacement exceeds the project contingency. District staff and the architect/engineer engaged in discussions to confirm the correct unit and appropriate cost; Dr. Loeck said the building fund has sufficient capacity to cover the excess and that the unit was already planned for replacement in the capital projects plan.
Dr. Loeck added that the condensing unit provides temperature control required for the district’s childcare program (the target range cited was 65–75 degrees). Board discussion did not change the recommendation; the board approved both change orders.
The board asked for continued visibility on contingency usage; Dr. Loeck said the district maintains a shared contingency tracking document and will continue to report on building-fund commitments and remaining contingency balances.
