Students from Swampscott High School told the School Committee on March 27 that workshops at a regional Connections conference reinforced their push for more in-school programs and teacher training to support inclusion and belonging.
The students said the conference offered sessions on “brave conversations” about social justice, empathy-building programs, cultural events and responses to microaggressions. "We learned the difference between inclusion is an action and belonging is a feeling," said Shannara Shaquaez, a junior representing Girls Group.
