Fargo Board approves 2026–27 school calendar after calendar committee consensus

The committee considered North Dakota statutes, the teacher negotiated contract and the board’s Executive Limitation EL‑14 when drafting the schedule.
Key features of the approved calendar include two built‑in storm days, color‑coded semester blocks, a mix of professional development days and non‑contact days, and placement of the last student day before a May holiday. Committee members said the calendar reduces the single week‑long spring break used in some prior years and instead distributes shorter breaks around statutory and testing requirements. Trustees said timing of end‑of‑year testing for junior high and high schools informed placement of some off days.
Board member Namal moved to approve the calendar “as presented”; Ally seconded. The board conducted a roll call vote recorded as: Bergland — Yes; Clark — Yes; Day — Yes; Ellickson — Yes; Jason Nelson — Yes; Kristen Nelson — Yes; Robin Nelson — Yes; Uhlenberger — Yes; Kristin Migner — Yes. The motion passed, 9–0.
Trustees also discussed alignment with other calendars, including North Dakota University System (NDUS) calendars, and acknowledged additional coordination with community partners may be useful. The board and administrators said the district will continue outreach so families can plan ahead.
No other formal actions on the calendar were taken at the meeting; the board approved the consent agenda and the meeting agenda earlier in the session by voice votes.
