Construction progress: Beaverton High, Raleigh Hills on track; Aloha HVAC and several summer projects highlighted
Summary
Bond staff and contractors reported structural erection and roofing progress at Beaverton High School, framing and utility work at Raleigh Hills, and a busy summer schedule including Aloha High HVAC, stage and paging upgrades, modular reroofing and security upgrades across the district.
The Bond Accountability Committee received project-by-project updates on March 19 that showed active construction across the district and several large summer projects ahead.
Beaverton High School: Contractors reported the steel structure fully erected, decking and slabs progressing, temporary roofing in place and final roofing scheduled to start pending weather. Mechanical, electrical and plumbing rough-in is underway in phases; furniture purchase planning is imminent.
Raleigh Hills: The project team said roughly 80 percent of structural steel is installed, slab-on-grade is poured, and metal deck slabs are partially poured. Exterior framing and temporary roofing are advancing so interior work can proceed; utility work on Shoals Ferry and a traffic-signal area was also reported. The contractor said the project remains on track for late fall completion.
Aloha High School and other large summer projects: Staff singled out Aloha's HVAC replacement as a major summer contract (current budget cited near $25 million). Other summer work includes Westview HVAC (adding air conditioning), Meadow Park and Cedar Park roof projects, Sunset High School HVAC, stadium turf replacements, and site repaving and landscaping efforts across multiple campuses.
Security and systems work: The district is rolling out access control, camera and intrusion-system upgrades at every school, and is following with paging and distributed-antenna-system (DAS) upgrades. Staff said Kinnaman, Westview and Aloha security upgrades are complete or nearly so and more schools are under contract.
Schedule and permitting: Staff reported most summer projects are permitted or in permitting and that coordination with Washington County and the City of Beaverton has improved permitting throughput. For larger projects that depend on preengineered building procurement, staff said they plan to work with a trade partner during design to reduce schedule risk and possibly obtain a guaranteed maximum price for the building package.
Tours and next meetings: The committee confirmed a site tour scheduled for June 18 (Stoller Middle School and potentially Westview and Oak Hills) and the next committee meeting slated for May 28.
Ending: Contractors and staff said weekly and three-week look-ahead schedules, monthly schedule checks and a predictive schedule matrix are used to monitor progress and critical-path work; no major schedule slippages were reported at the March 19 meeting.
