Committee members heard a brief update on the district's summer internship program at the March 19 meeting.
Staff said the program has grown over the past two years and that 16 internship positions will be offered for the upcoming summer: four positions within the district bond team and 12 with partner firms (architects, contractors and a few subcontractors). Staff said the internships are paid and span roles including design, communications, construction management and trades exposure.
The internship announcement was accompanied by a short promotional video produced by Nate Baker in the control booth and featuring Beaverton High School drama students as actors. Staff described a virtual open house planned in the next few weeks for interested students to ask questions; applications close April 11 and the application link is on the district website.
Staff encouraged committee members to share the opportunity with students in the district and noted the program has doubled in size each of the last two years, which will require additional capacity planning if growth continues.
Ending: Staff asked the committee to refer interested students to the bond website for details and said they will track applicants and report back in future meetings.
