Dickinson ISD honors alumni donors, students and coaches; superintendent recognized as finalist for Livingston ISD

The Dickinson Independent School District honored volunteers, students and extracurricular teams during the public recognitions portion of the board meeting.
The board announced a new monthly recognition for alumni volunteers and named Clifford Hillman as April's honoree for his long-standing support of the Dickinson ISD Education Foundation and scholarships established in memory of his brother. District presenters credited Hillman and the fund with providing scholarships, supporting Junior ROTC and band, and expanding support to career and technical education programs.
At McAdams Junior High, staff recognized sixth-grader Edward Benila Asorto for performing the Heimlich maneuver and saving a fellow student. Valencia Villarreal, chief deputy with the Galveston County Sheriff's Office, presented Asorto with a life-saving award on behalf of the sheriff's office, saying, "on behalf of the Galveston County Sheriff's Office, we issue you a life saving award." The district also recognized students who advanced in the Great History Challenge and athletes and arts ensembles — including Dickinson High School swimming relays that qualified for regionals, cheer, soccer, choir and multiple junior-high and high-school dance teams that earned contest awards.
The board also recognized 16 campus teachers of the year, who will be eligible for district-level honors at the district's May employee awards banquet. The list of honorees included teachers across elementary and secondary campuses; district staff said two district teachers of the year will be announced at the May banquet.
Board members took time to acknowledge Superintendent Jeff Pack, who the meeting record identifies as "a lone finalist for Livingston ISD as superintendent." Trustees offered personal remarks and tributes; one speaker read a poem honoring Pack's years with the district. Pack and his family were thanked publicly for their service to "Gator Nation," and trustees and staff expressed appreciation as Pack prepares to leave for the finalist position. No personnel action related to Pack's status was taken during the public meeting portion.
The recognitions segment included presentations by district staff and a guest from Galveston County law enforcement. No contested items or votes were associated with the recognitions.
