Dickinson ISD certifies instructional materials, approves pilot of Spanish Bluebonnet math

The Dickinson ISD Board of Trustees approved the district's annual instructional material certification and voted to pilot the Spanish-language edition of Bluebonnet Learning K–5 math for the next school year.

Superintendent Jeff Pack told the board the curriculum team had reviewed materials and that the district "do[es] cover 100% of the TEKS" across subjects and complies with applicable federal and state internet-protection laws, and he recommended ratifying the 2025–26 instructional material certification for submission to the Texas Education Commissioner. Trustees approved that certification by unanimous vote.

Pack also explained that the Spanish version of Bluebonnet Learning for K–5 math was not yet on the State Board of Education approved list because the Spanish edition was not complete; he said the district expects the state approval process to take about a year and asked the trustees to allow a one-year pilot of the Spanish Bluebonnet math while the publisher completes state review. The board approved the pilot request by unanimous voice vote.

The public record shows the district will move forward to acquire the Spanish-language resources for a pilot year; the board did not record cost details or how the pilot will be evaluated in the public motion. District staff previously presented Bluebonnet Learning to trustees in a prior presentation (referenced in the meeting), and the board's action allows the district to deploy the Spanish materials while the official state list is pending.

Trustees moved both items without amendment and voted in favor: Trustees Cotton, Vizzi, Magliolo, Rodriguez and Mackey were recorded as voting yes on the certification and on the pilot approval.
