Frenship ISD trustees recognize student achievements, staff communications awards

Tiffany Taylor, director of public relations, introduced the academic decathlon team and coaches Catherine Wright and Dr. William Brow. The district’s high school team climbed five places to finish seventh at the state academic decathlon; individual students earned medals, including one student who took first place in math.
Art students also qualified for the Visual Arts Scholastic Events (VASE) state competition; nine Friendship High School entries advanced from a regional field of 457 entries to the state level. Visual arts coordinator Joey McLean recognized Kai Ortiz Campos, Brianna Hart and Penina Gindahayo among those present.
Friendship High School student athletic trainers placed second at the West Texas Sports Medicine Society Symposium and multiple students qualified for academic all-state honors, Frenship’s head athletic trainer Dustin Rush reported. The district recognized a group of All-State student athletic trainers who meet the top academic standard for the program.
The board also congratulated the varsity football team on its first 10-win season since 2013 and its first outright district championship since 2014. Head coach Jay Northcutt recognized players who earned academic and athletic statewide honors, and noted quarterback Colvin (Holden or Colvin referenced in transcript) led the state in passing yards and touchdowns as reported by the coach.
The communications team — Tiffany Taylor, Desiree Jones, Hannah Morelos, Britney James and others — received multiple awards from the Texas School Public Relations Association for social media campaigns, video marketing, newsletters and school board appreciation promotions.
