Victoria ISD board approves contract renewals, new assistant superintendent and rules on parent grievance

Under closed-meeting authority in Texas Government Code Chapter 551, subchapter D, the board considered probationary contract renewals, term contract renewals and administrative contract renewals. Back in open session, Trustee Ms. Marshall moved to approve the probationary, term and administrative contract renewals as recommended by district administration; Mr. Jones seconded the motion and the board approved it by a vote of 6-0.
Later the board moved to employ Justin Gavrish as assistant superintendent of administrative services, subject to future reassignment by the superintendent. The motion was made by Miss Pruitt, seconded by Mr. Patton, and carried 6-0. Board members offered congratulations and remarks recognizing Gavrish’s progression from teacher and coach to administrator.
The board also considered a Level 3 parent grievance in closed session pursuant to Texas Government Code section 551.071 and related provisions. Trustees described the matter as a difficult decision, thanked the family for participating in the process, and voted on a motion related to the grievance. The motion carried 6-0.
All roll-call tallies in these actions were recorded as unanimous (6-0). The board adjourned after completing the scheduled open- and closed-session items.
